Raise $1,000 for your Organization Quickly and Easily
Thank you for visiting this web page. I realize that your time is valuable, and I appreciate your investing your time reading this material. By way of introduction, my
name is Alan H. Jordan. I’m an author and I also am a principal in LB Creative, LLC Press, a small publishing
company that
competes by selling books, e-books, audio books (CDs and .mp3 files) and physical bookmarks that convey your story.
The back cover (or an audio message) motivates people to buy the
book. The back cover (or audio message or bookmark) also encourages
other donations to your cause, long after the fund raising drive is
over.
If you are searching for an exciting enjoyable fund raiser that can easily raise $1,000 for you, and has the potential to raise much more?
When your organization sells 100 copies of this book you can make $9 on each one + $1 or more in extra income each, and raise $1,000 in a couple of weeks.
Plus, you can solicit regular donations on the back cover of the book, and make money for years to come.
100 copies is not hard to sell because:
- The back cover of this book is specifically designed to promote your organization or a specific campaign, event or cause with which you’re involved. When people read this, they are very likely to buy a copy of the book for their children, or to give to grandchildren, nephews, nieces, friends, family, and co-workers as a gift. Many people will buy two copies.
- We provide a series of press releases and design a web page that will help you to sell many books to people who you don’t know, but can reach out to by asking for support through personal emails from your organization’s members or your students and their parents.
- In addition to getting 100 copies of the book, you also get a bonus of 5 copies of a Teacher’s edition that includes a CD that reads the book in three languages (English, Spanish and Italian) two-pages-at-a-time, the way a child reads. These can be used to help children get excited about telling people about the book.
- We will show you how to do this fundraiser in conjunction with other fund raisers, like auctions, and raise considerably more money.
- People can continue to order the book from your website long after your sales campaign has stopped. Every sale, every donation will be found money.
Your investment is $1,100. Further purchases of the book, in larger quantities, cost less per book, so you make more.
Fun Fundraising that Helps Schools – Hanging Off the Wire – Hayley Kolb
Valentine’s Day has just passed, and it is a sad fact that some parents who are in love with their child’s schools are worried that they will close. There was a time when parents didn’t worry about a school’s financial survival. Unfortunately, those days are past. In addition to paying taxes and tuition, many parents now find themselves helping to raise funds for schools. If you are one of those parents, or feel that you might one day be faced with helping a school or library raise funds, this posts proposes an enjoyable solution that you can suggest to your school or library to raise thousands, even tens of thousands of dollars.
Let’s examine how you might help an elementary school to raise funds. A typical elementary school has between 200 and 500 students. Most of those children enjoy a good picture book like my book, The Monster on Top of the Bed, and they are excited about sharing the book with other people. If asked, children will happily spend five minutes telling an adult or another child why they like the the book. Assume that one of your neighbor’s children came to your door, and hands you a form to buy popcorn and a book. The child says, “My school is raising money to remodel the nurse’s office. Would you like to buy a some popcorn or a book.?” How do you react?
You’re familiar with popcorn, but not with the book. The front cover is interesting, and you turn over to the back cover. There’s a picture of the school nurse, and something like this:
Our school needs to raise $8,000 to remodel the Nurses’ office. This book is a part of that fund-raising effort. We decided to ask students, and their parents to sell it because children really like it, it helps them to banish the fear of monsters, it helps children make friends because children who read it discover that friendship conquers fear, and because the characters convey the Golden Rule. For every book sold, the school makes $10.00.
This book has some special features that may not be obvious.
- You can go the the website, http://www.MonBed.com, click on the listen tab and do a free download 98 .mp3 files that feature six different readers, who read the story in English, Spanish and Italian. This encourages literacy.
- Children are encouraged to draw their own illustrations for the book, and to give them to their teachers. Our teachers will scan the pictures into a special e-book version. Children who submit a picture will receive a free copy of the e-book that that reads the story while displaying pictures. This encourages drawing, and builds self esteem.
- You get a free flavored popcorn with each book.
If a child is showing you this book, ask her or him if he has read it, and why they like it. The answers are likely to warm your heart. Please consider buying The Monster on Top of the Bed for your children, or as a gift.
How would you react? If you could afford it, and if the child went on for three or four minutes explaining why they loved the book, would you buy a copy? If not, might you buy a couple of packages of popcorn for $2 each? Let’s look at the math.
- Assume that 200 children sell 3 copies each and that their parents also sell 3 copies each. That’s 1,200 copies.
- Assume that the book and the porncorn together cost $11.
- Assume that the book sells for $20.
- $20 – $11 = $9 profit from selling a book and chocolate bar.
- 1,200 x $9 = $10,800 raised, doing something that’s fun.
But, it doesn’t stop there. Suppose you also placed a request for donations on the back of the book. Perhaps some parents would later mail in donations. In fact, you might even get donations years later because books, unlike popcorn or chocolate bars, have a long shelf life and are given to other children.
Also, it’s possible to work with the publisher to set up a special web page where people from around the world can buy the book. This means you can send an e-mail out to different people and raise money for the school, or you could distribute press releases, and get orders from people whom you’ve never met.
Finally, it’s possible to sell popcorn, chocolate bars, cookies, or hard candies to those who don’t buy the book and make money from that too.
In other words, you can raise a lot of money, using a product that excites children, and helps them to prosper. For more information call me at (775) 453-6636, or fill out the form at the bottom of this web page.
Opportunity to Raise $10,000 for Schools – Shelly B. Conroe – Write for a Reader
This week I have the pleasure of interviewing Alan Jordan. I recently reviewed Alan’s book, The Monster on Top of the Bed. An accomplished writer, Alan wrote also six business books and is the author of four audio books for children. He interviews celebrities to help raise money for charities on http://www.CelebrityMagic.ORG, and businesspeople for a blog and forthcoming book, that explores how to promote oneself by stabling a platform, http://www.PlatformMagic.com. In this interview we explore why he wrote the book The Monster on Top of the Bed, and we explore how it can help your children’s school or library raise thousands of dollars.
Shelly: Alan, as you can tell from reading my review of The Monster on Top of the Bed, we really liked it. Can you tell our readers, what inspired you to write it?
Alan: Certainly, Shelly. First, let me say that I am delighted that you have taken the time to write a review my book, and to interview me. I truly enjoy Write for a Reader, and it is my pleasure to be a part of your site.
To answer your question, I don’t expect to die anytime soon, but I am at the age where I know it is possible to die. My daughter is a married grown woman, but she and her husband have not yet started a family. The Monster on Top of the Bed was written to pass on some of my strongest values to my future grandchildren, in the event that I should die before they are born or before they are old enough to remember me should I die.
Shelly: Before this interview, you mentioned that you consciously created this book to empower schools and libraries to raise money. Can you explain how an author goes about doing something like that?
Alan: Frankly, Shelly, an author can’t do that, at least with a major publisher. I had a number of business books published before, this book, and I knew that if I went to a publisher and explained that I wanted to create a book that broke the standard rules of publishing, they would not be interested. I made the decision to independently publish the book, and create a variety of formats that are not commercially viable for a mainstream publisher, but that made the book very valuable for teaching, motivating children to read, write and draw and also help schools and libraries raise money.
Shelly: Independently publish. Does that mean self publishing?
Alan: Yes, and no. It’s a form of self publishing, but it goes far beyond that. As an independent publisher, I hired the artist, editors, artwork editors, translators, performance artists to record the story in different languages, sound editors, voice editors, and the list goes on. Over 100 people, including children who had an opportunity to review the book before it was written, were involved in producing the final versions and the various formats of the book.
Shelly: That’s interesting. What kind of formats, and how do they relate to inspiring children to learn?
Alan: The CD/Book format is one example. It reads the book in English, Spanish and Italian, there’s a page-turning sound whenever the end of a page is reached. That’s not all that unusual, but the standard methodology is to go into a studio and record. I wanted to show children that it’s possible to accomplish their dreams through collaboration, so I engaged readers from around the world to record the story. There are two readers who read it in English, two who read it in Spanish and one who reads it in Italian. Children love to listen to the different versions, and they will spend hours discussing which is their favorite reader, and why.
Shelly: Can you explain to our readers how they might approach a school or library, and help them to raise tens-of-thousands of dollars?
Alan: Certainly. I know that in this economy saying it’s easy to raise $10,000 or $20,000 for a school or library sounds like hype, but it’s not. Let’s take a typical school in Cleveland, OH as an example According to LocalSchoolDirectory.com Alexander Graham Bell Elementary School enrolls 408 preschool and elementary school students from grades PK-8. It is located in Cleveland, OH, which is a highly populated city with a median household income of $25,928. This school is part of the Cleveland Municipal City School District, which has a total student enrollment of 53,741. You know the quality of The Monster on Top of the Bed because of Kelli’s review. Do you think that 100 of those children might like the book?
Shelly: Absolutely. I think you’d find at least 100 of the children who adored the book.
Alan: Let’s suppose that the school wants to remodel their nurse’s office, and they need about $8,000 to do that, but it’s not in the budget. Suppose that the school bought some copies of the book, and on the back cover was a full explanation of why they want to raise money, along with a picture of the school nurse. Let’s say that 100 children, take a copy of the book around to their family, friends and neighbors, and they say how much they like the book. How many copies do you think that they could sell?
Shelly: Well, children really like the book, and their parents would help out too—take the book to work, and it’s possible that some parents might put it up on their website and take order. Some might sell 1 or 2, some 25 or 30; maybe an average of ten books per child.
Alan: Now suppose that you also added something else while you were selling the book. Say, a chocolate bar that sells for $2. Suppose you gave people a chocolate bar with every book that they bought, and suppose the chocolate bars cost you $1 each. 10 books times $9 profit each = $90. But some people would just buy a chocolate bar, and some people might buy several books or several chocolate bars. So you might make an extra $10. That’s $100.00 Multiply that by 100 children and you have $10,000.00. That more than pays for the remodel, and . . .
Shelly: . . . and since there are 400 students in the school, it might easily raise $20,000 or more.
Alan: Right, that’s because the book has been designed to help out with fund raising, and because it’s a great book that kids love, and get excited about talking about.
Shelly: I can see a 5-year old being much more excited about having their school raise money by selling The Monster on Top of the Bed than by selling candy.
Alan: Candy has its place. It’s a proven fundraiser, but this is something different, something unique, and it’s the first of several books that we’re making available with this program. For example, there’s a book of poetry coming out that kids will love, and another book of poetry that’s geared to older children.
Shelly: What does it cost a school to do this?
Alan: The books cost between $5.00 when you buy 40,000 or more and $15 each when you buy ten of them. A quantity of 1,000 costs $10. They sell for $20.
Shelly: Even a small school can easily raise $10,000!
Alan: Yes! You’ve got the idea.
Shelly: Suppose a school wanted to start out with an order of 100 books, and then buy 1,000 books after they see that they sell the first 100?
Alan: 100 books costs $12.00 each. So they would make a little less than $800 when they sold them because the school also pays for shipping.
Shelly: How does someone go about getting the books?
Alan: They can go to this web page and fill out the form, http://monbed30.max-opp.com/sponsored-editions/fun-fund-raiser-for-schools-libraries/, or they can call me at (775) 453-6636. I’m in the Pacific time zone. If I’m not in, leave me a voice mail. I’m frequently in meetings, or speaking. It may take me a little time to get back to them, but I will.
Shelly: Alan, I’m really excited about this opportunity. In an era when schools and libraries are being forced to close, this is great news. Thanks for sharing with our readers.
Alan: Shelly, it’s my pleasure, truly.
PTA Fundraising Idea – Beyond Bookfairs
PTAs, schools and libraries need to fund raise. They need new ideas that can raise a lot of money quickly. Candy and cookies are fine, but many parents feel that they need ideas that will excite children and their parents about the effort. The Monster on Top of the Bed, was recently reviewed by the blog 2 Wired 2 Tired. It’s a wonderful review, that includes pictures of the writer’s children with my book. I suggest that you read it. In that post the writer said:
Overall I have to say that the book was a huge success… especially since all the recent purchases at the school book fair have been totally ignored since this book came in the mail!
That statement got me to thinking about how this particular book has true value for PTAs as a fund raiser. Children love the book. They would not hesitate to tell any of their friends about it. In fact, children would be delighted to take a special sponsored edition of the book that has a picture of their school on the back cover and explains how this book is being used to raise money for any number of things, including:
- Books for the library
- Books for the classroom
- Construction
- After school activities
- Reading programs
- and the list goes on and on.

The Monster on Top of the Bed comes in a variety of editions, and you can download the story in three languages for free.
Just imagine if a child you know came up to you, proudly pointed to the back cover of The Monster on Top of the Bed and said something like this: “This is a picture of our school’s nurse. We’re selling this book to remodel the nurse’s office and buy her things. Would you be interested in buying this book. I’ve read it, and I love it. You don’t have to pay for it now. Just sign this sheet.”
Imagine on the sheet that you had your choice of a paperback version, a hard back, and a hardback with a book flap and a small book accompanied by a CD. Imagine that you asked the student a question. Imagine that she told you all about why she loved the book. Might you buy the book for your children?

An example of how the back cover of The Monster on Top of the Bed can be customized to help with fundraising.
It’s easy to raise $2,500 if children ask
Children love the book, and they’re happier to sell it than to sell candy. When they sell candy they just give out a sheet. When they ask people to buy this book, they’re excited. They’ll talk for minutes about why the book is great. If 100 children ask 10 people to buy the book and half do buy that’s 500 copies sold, and if the PTA makes $5 a book, that’s $2,500, but that’s just the beginning.
It’s easy to raise more money through publicity
The publisher will create a special web page for the book that parents can tell their friends about by
- phone
- putting links on their personal web pages, or
- giving out a flyer.
This web page can be publicized in newspapers and through Public Service Announcements on the radio or TV.
Here’s an example of a press release. The publisher will work with you to craft the right words to get results:
The PTA at the Roberts school is selling a special limited edition of Alan Jordan’s The Monster on Top of the Bed to raise money to remodel the nurse’s office. (Details about the remodel go here.) You can get your copy by going to http://www.NewNursesOffice.com. (Of course this would be a special URL.)
In The Monster on Top of the Bed scary monsters are converted into friends. “What are you talking about?” you say. I’m talking about a book (and many other resources) that you read and your children will read. When you run out of time to read and re-read the story (children love to it read it over and over) you can download free .mp3 files where professionals perform the story two pages at a time in English, Spanish and Italian.
The Monster on Top of the Bed gives children the magic words, the special mantra, to banish monsters whenever they want. More than that, The Monster on Top of the Bed gives children who are not afraid of monsters, the knowledge they need to prevent monsters from robbing them (and you) of their precious sleep.
Children from the Roberts school have recorded a message that says why they love the book. You can hear that by calling (area code) 555-1234. (Of course this would be a real number.)
Orders can be placed by calling (area code) 555-2364, or by sending a check for $20 to (name and address) or by visiting http://www.NewNursesOffice.com. (Of course this would be a special URL.)
You can raise lots more money through Facebook – Even When You’re on the Run
Through the power of a special “Facebook Fan Page,” parents can tap into the networking abilities of Facebook. Parents spend time on Facebook anyway. The publisher will outline a strategy that will make sales through Facebook to viral. (That means that many people hear about the book and buy it through word-of-mouth advertising.)

Schools Funding Cuts – PTOs can Raise Funds with The Monster on Top of the Bed
With schools and libraries losing funding to buy books, new and creative solutions to fund raise are being sought. Sponsoring a children’s book is one way for PTOs to raise substantial funds, and members enjoy the process.
For your information, this blog post was created after reading this article:
PTOs Pitch in More Than Ever in Economic Pinch
The italics means that I am quoting from the article.
All funding for new library books was one of the accounts cut from the 2010-11 school budget following its defeat at the polls.
Working with the media center staff, Ziegler said parents also took on both the labor and funding needed to continue the school’s longstanding “Wizards of Words” contest held annually for fourth and fifth graders.
Parents last year coached “teams” at their homes to prepare for the contest, she said last month.
Even with the generosity of both time and funding from school families, Ziegler said that the PTO feels it necessary to make donations received from parents go as far as possible in coming up with projects at the school. “We are pushing our community chairs to be stingy with their money,” she said.
Here’s a solution that can help PTOs raise substantial funds, and do it easily – Sell sponsored editions of The Monster on Top of the Bed.
Full details may be found on these two web pages:
- http://monbed30.max-opp.com/sponsored-editions/bundles-sponsored-edition/ (discusses the costs – which can be as little as $20.)
- http://monbed30.max-opp.com/sponsored-editions/ – provides an overview of why this book can help to raise funds.
However, here’s the skinny:
• The Monster on Top of the Bed is an entertaining children’s book that banishes monsters and helps children make friends.
• It’s praised by children, professionals, parents and grandparents.
• It has great reviews
• In a sponsored edition, the back cover can be customized to talk about why the PTO needs to raise money
• It has the potential to raise funds immediately, by selling it and making a profit, and to encourage donations for years to come.
• Unlike other fund raising concepts, the PTO members are not limited to selling people that they know. The book can be sold effectively via news releases, and by asking your current membership base to pass the word by sending out a few e-mails asking people (anywhere in the English, Spanish or Italian) speaking world to buy the book to support the PTO.
• It’s easy to make $5.00 or more per book.
• 100 people who sell 5 books each generate 500 sales with $2,500-$3,500 in profit, depending how many books they buy at one time.
• The Monster on Top of the Bed is easily sold by the children of PTO members.
• This amount of earnings can be doubled or tripled by word-of-mouth advertising, without any additional effort on the part of the PTO members.
• Web-based/publicity generated sales can add another $2,500 to $3,500 in profit with minor effort. (Send out some press releases that are crafted for the PTO and make a follow up phone call or two.)
• This is only one of several opportunities.

Reading Parties Raise Funds in a Fun Way
One pr
oblem with fund raising is that it is easy for members to get burned out.The same people are asked over-and-over to spend a lot of time promoting the fund raiser, and then they are asked to spend money at the fund raising event. The Monster on Top of the Bed offers a unique solution: hold a Reading Party, or partner with a host or hostess to make a reading party a part of another party, like Tupperware or Creative Chef.
It’s pretty simple. Letting the attendees know you will be spending 10-15 minutes going over a unique book for children will often more people to attend, simply because it’s something new and interesting.
During the party, when promoting The Monster on Top of the Bed, go over how the book can help children to:
- enjoy reading
- discover the easy way to make friends
- learn that friendship conquers fear
- want to draw or illustrate
- become interested in writing
We offer support such as PowerPoint shows and printables that will encourage attendees to buy the book. People often buy copies for themselves and their friends and family. If you have 10 people at a party and each buys 3 copies of the book that’s thirty sales, or about $300 that you’ve raised. You can split that with the hostess, if you’re a part of a larger party, like a Tupperware party.
Kids Printables a Key to Raising Lots of Money
Kids printables are a key to raising a lot of money, and you can test the waters the next time that you visit a diner or family restaurant. Here’s a simple set of steps.
- Download one or more of the posters that are available to our members. (Enter “poster” into the search box.)
- Download one or more of the black-and-white printables that children can color and that are available on our site to members.
- Buy a copy of The Monster on Top of the Bed. (Big book or CD with small booklet.)
- Print out the poster and the printables
- Stop by a family restaurant (If you are not a good customer it helps if you also eat something while you are there) and show the poster and printables to the manager. Say something like this, “I’m with <name of organization> and we have set a goal to rise $5,000 to <reason for raising funds> and I wonder if you could help us. Would you be willing to take some of these printables and give them to children along with some crayons, and hang up the pictures that the children drew? The printable tells people that they can buy this <book> <CD and booklet> here for $20. When someone wants to buy a book, please sell them it. I think that the children will really enjoy the coloring, and you won’t be putting any pressure on anyone to buy anything. Also, we have these posters that you can hang up, and some people may be interested in buying. The book sells for $20.
- See the reaction of the manger. If it is favorable ask them how many printables they would like, and how many books he thinks his customers might buy.
- Make arrangements to deliver the materials he or she needs.
- Stop by from time-to-time to restock his supply and pick up the money you’ve made.
How much can you make? How about $8-$10 per book.
Do the math
- Number of restaurants that might say “sure I’ll do that for you.” ___________
- x Average number of books they sell in a month ___________ x
- Equals number of books sold in a month ___________ =
- x an average of $9.00 $___________ x
- Equals gross money raised per month $ ___________ =
- Less cost of printing posters and printables $ ___________ -
- Equals net funds raised $____________ =
Example 10 restaurants say okay and you estimate they’ll sell 15 copies each = 150 copies a month x $10 each = $1,500 a month in gross funds raised – $50 for printing costs = $1,450 profit per month, over $17,000 a year.
PLUS, we can arrange for the printable to also promote the goals of your organization. Great for acquiring new members.
Fund Raise with a Sponsored Edition of the Monster on Top of the Bed
Use a sponsored edition to fund raise. Information about your organization is placed on the back cover and the price can be adjusted to help you meet your objectives.
Imagine, for example, that you are a member of a Rotary Club in the small fictitious that Lillian Jackson Braun created in her “The Cat Who . . . ” series of books and that you are raising money to promote literacy. The information that you put on the back cover of a sponsored edition of a book might read something like this:
Rotary International is the world’s first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto Service Above Self.
As part of our ongoing efforts to help children develop a love for reading, we are selling this special limited edition of The Monster on Top of the Bed. Open it up and you’ll immediately see that it is filled with ice-cream parlor artwork.
When you buy this book you’ll be supporting our drive to donate more than 10,000 books to be used in libraries in the United States, and abroad. We’ve selected this book for our fund raiser because it helps children learn how to make friends and it can help to banish the fear of bed-time monsters. Also, we love the fact that you can hear the story page-by-page read in English, Spanish and Italian, and we’ve arranged for you to be able to download .mp3 files that you can listen to on any computer, iPod, or .mp3 player.
The Monster on Top of the Bed comes in a variety of editions that you can sell. Some people will buy more than one edition. For example, it’s not uncommon to buy both the large book and the CD.
These include:
- A full-sized book. (Peek inside.)
- A booklet that fits into a CD case. The CD reads the book in several languages
- Several different types of e-books
- Audio-book in .mp3 and CD formats
